The Concert Choir at Forrest County Agricultural High School has a long and storied tradition of choral excellence. Choirs have been a part of the curriculum at FCAHS for the majority of its 101 year history. The group has been an ambassador for the school in the local community and the Southeast Region of the United States traveling to many festivals in Mississippi, Tennessee, Alabama, and Florida. It has consistently performed well at District, State and other Festivals including recently earning Superior ratings at the Riverland Choral Festival in Pearl, MS.
In his first year of teaching (2012-2013), Mr. Andy Smigielski led the Concert Choir to new heights of success. They performed a joint concert with the Long Beach High School Concert Choir, one of the most highly regarded high school choirs in the Southeast Region, as well as on The University of Southern Mississippi’s Holiday Choral Spectacular featuring the USM Symphony Orchestra and Choral Activities department. They have also been afforded the opportunity to premiere new music by up and coming composer Nathan Jones. The group has been praised by Dr. John Flanery of USM, Dr. Mark Taylor of Jones County Junior College, and Dr. Mark Malone of William Carey University for stunning growth and improvement under the direction of Smigielski. The choral program at FCAHS has enjoyed at 38% increase in participants for the 2013-2014 school year. This year the choir was once again featured on the USM Holiday Choral Spectacular, which was broadcast locally on ABC and NBC affiliates. Also in the spring of 2014, the Concert Choir will tour Washington D.C. where they will perform at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, New York Avenue Presbyterian Church, and the United States Capitol Building for Congressman Palazzo.
